Just Sitting App

Your companion in silence, authentic meditation practice without voice guidance.

Radical Simplicity for Meditation

Just Sitting is not a relaxation app. It is a tool dedicated to those who have understood that meditation is not a way to escape reality, but a rigorous method of investigating it.

In a world saturated with 'wellness' apps offering spiritual entertainment, guided voices, and background music, Just Sitting proposes a return to the essence: Silence.

Designed for Depth

The app was specifically designed to support practitioners of traditional paths, such as:

  • Shamatha & Vipashyana: Cultivating stability and insight.
  • Madhyamaka: Investigating emptiness and the nature of phenomena.
  • Mahamudra & Dzogchen: Recognizing the natural state of the mind (Rigpa).

Essence, Not Entertainment

If you want to relax after a hard day, a sauna or a walk in nature can be excellent choices. But if you want to come closer to understanding the true nature of reality, you need discipline, authentic guidance, and an undisturbed mental space. Just Sitting provides you with that space.

Key Features

  • Minimalist Interface: Dark Mode design that reduces eye strain and prevents distractions.
  • DND Mode (Do Not Disturb): Once the session begins, the app isolates digital noise.
  • Warmup Phase: Dedicated time to stabilize posture and intention before the main gong.
  • Wisdom Section: An integrated resource reflecting the theoretical foundations of the practice, constantly reminding you of the ultimate goal of meditation.
  • No Audio Guidance: Just you and your mind. The bell sound marks the beginning and the end, leaving the space between them completely free.

Mindful tracking, without attachment

"Just Sitting" allows you to keep a minimal record of your practice: total meditation time, session count, and a simple history of your sitting periods. We deliberately designed this feature to be unobtrusive, avoiding complex charts or pressure-inducing notifications. The goal is to observe continuity, not to become obsessed with data or feel guilty about missed days. You remain in full control of your information, with options to backup, restore, or delete your records at any time. It is a quiet mirror of your commitment, meant to support discipline rather than create extra stress.

Our Philosophy

We believe that digital tools should be invisible servants, not masters of our attention. Just Sitting eliminates everything superfluous, offering you only the rigor and stillness needed to simply 'sit'.

Tutorials, First Steps

Brief guidance on using the app with intention, not out of habit.

1. Installation & Opening

Download the app from Google Play. Upon first opening, go to Settings and grant the necessary permissions for DND (Do Not Disturb), ensuring your session is not interrupted by notifications.

2. Warmup before the gong

Set the warmup duration and the main session. Use the warmup seconds to adjust your posture, clarify your intention, and allow the body to settle before the bell signal.

3. During the sitting

Don't seek 'special experiences'. Stay with what is, without forcing anything. The bell only marks the structure of time; everything between the sounds is yours, without vocal guidance.

4. Wisdom Section

Read the fragments in Wisdom outside of your session or whenever you need to re-center. They serve as a reminder of the practice's view—they do not replace the guidance of an authentic teacher.

5. DND & Interruptions

If the session stops or DND fails to activate, check your Android system settings and the app version. Report technical issues via Contact, with the subject 'App Technical Issues'.

6. Daily Practice

Consistency beats duration. Even ten minutes daily, with the same sobriety, shapes the mind better than rare and long sessions. Choose a realistic interval and stick to it without drama.
